Rheumatoid Arthritis - Diagnosis and Symptoms
Arthritis is one of the leading causes of disability in the US. 20% of arthritis sufferers are unable to perform vital life activities such as working or housekeeping because of their condition. Arthritis sufferers endure more days in severe pain, experience more days with limited ability to perform daily activities, and have more difficulty performing personal-care routines than people without arthritis. As with other chronic pain conditions, arthritis can also have a negative effect on mental health. Some forms of arthritis also make your body age faster. Rheumatoid arthritis is the second most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis being the first.
The Definition of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis, known as Still's disease in children, is a condition that causes inflammation of joints and associated pain, swelling and stiffness. Rheumatoid arthritis causes the body's own immune system to attack joint tissue, breaking down collagen, cartilage, and sometimes bone or other organs. This chronic disease affects people differently and fluctuates over time, often marked by symptoms that improve only to re-emerge later. In some cases it is mild and lasts only a few months (this kind is known as type 1), while in others the disease becomes progressively complicated by disability and other health problems, lasting many years (this is known as type 2).
Rheumatoid arthritis most often affects the wrist and finger joints closest to the hand, but can also affect joints in the feet and throughout the body. Anyone can be affected by it, but women are more likely to develop symptoms. These most often begin between the ages of 20 and 30. The causes of rheumatoid arthritis are not yet understood, but many effective strategies have been developed to manage the symptoms.
Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms and Signs
The main symptom is joint stiffness in the morning, often in the hands or feet. Stiffness that persists for an hour or more, or swelling and pain that lasts for more than six weeks, may be indicative of rheumatoid arthritis. Joint discomfort is typically symmetrical, for example both hands will hurt or feel stiff, not just one. Early symptoms also may include fever, excessive tiredness, or pea-sized lumps called "nodules" that can be felt under the skin.
Other possible symptoms include anemia, appetite loss and the accumulation of fluid in the ankles or behind the knee. In children, symptoms may include shaking chills and a pink rash which may follow the characteristic painful and swollen joints.
If you think that you may have rheumatoid arthritis, see your doctor for a possible diagnosis and to discuss the best course of treatment.

Housekeeping is a Never Ending Task
Housekeeping is a term used by us when we want to say anything regarding keeping the house neat and clean. Housekeeping should not be a chore just for the lady of the house. It can be shared by all members of the family. If all do a little bit it would not sound as scary as it does! The general cleanliness of the house not only makes the house look good but also ensures good health of its members as hygiene is maintained.
Housekeeping can be made a fun activity too, especially if children are also involved. Don't think of housekeeping as a tedious and depressing job instead as a healthy activity. Follow some of the given tips and make your home a healthier and safer place.
To begin with we must know the basic tasks involved. Firstly, we must keep our homes clean on a daily basis and not allow dirt and dust to collect over a period of time. This will prevent growth of small micro-organisms like fungi and bacteria. These normally breed in bathroom, toilets and kitchens. Keeping these areas clean reduces the chance of infections and diseases. Daily sweeping and swabbing of the floors helps to maintain the cleanliness of the house especially if there are children and pets in the house. Vacuuming the mattresses once a week helps in getting rid of dust mites that cause respiratory infections in children and adults alike.
Seasonal clothes like sweaters, shawls etc should be covered in plastic bags and vacuum pressed so that fungus, termites, other insect do not harm them. Naphthelin balls should be kept with these clothes.
Baby clothes should be washed and dried properly before being kept away. Spring cleaning even if its not spring time is a good idea, give away old clothes, toys, books etc if your children have out grown them this helps reduce the clutter and recycling is good for the environment. If children are not willing to part with their things suggest a yard sale and the money earned can be used to by some thing new.
Dusting can be therapeutic, try whistling or put on some music it, helps you do your job better and with less stress. Think of it as aerobic exercise that will keep you fit.
Encourage your children to do these chores from a young age it will give them a sense of responsibility and accomplishment.

Male Yeast Infection Treatment - Effective Ways to Treat Yeast Problems in Men
Male yeast infections can be nasty, particularly if they are in the penile area. But what are the best methods for male yeast infection treatment? Don't despair! This article has some of the best-known as well as some scientifically-recognised methods. From there, you can have the treatments that you need to get on the road to recovery or you can make the necessary changes to your lifestyle to make sure that the yeast infection does not make an unwanted comeback.
What the doctor will do
Seeing a doctor about your treatment is wise, particularly if it is your first time experiencing a yeast infection. They can explain to you more what the circumstances around your infection are and can give you a spot-on treatment relevant to the problem you present. Following the recommended dosage for the correct amount of time should help remove the problem for good.
Whilst treating your infection, some other housekeeping habits to pick up
You want to keep the area which has been affected by the yeast infection as hygienic as possible. Also, you want the area to be the complete opposite of the ideal environment for yeast to grow in. Doing the following can help you achieve this:
Make sure you wash the infected area frequently
Even more importantly, make sure you dry the infected area thoroughly afterwards - bear in mind that yeast love a warm and moist environment as it is their ideal environment to reproduce
Change the clothes you wear every day, putting the clothes of the day before in the wash (and yes, that does include your boxers!)
Following the instructions of your treatment religiously
While you think on...
If you believe that your yeast infection could have been caused by your sexual partner, make sure that she has received the correct treatment and has had the yeast infection cured before sexual intercourse.
Do all of this and you should be all set!

Clean Decorating - Decorating With Housekeeping in Mind
A beautiful home is often equated with extra work to maintain its beauty. However, an attractive home and a clean home are not mutually exclusive. These days, many interior finishes are made to be easier to maintain than they were in years past.
Paint
Improved paint finishes are a good example of the trend to improve cleaning. For years, wall paints have been designed to make application easier than maintenance. Now many wall paints are designed so that they go on easily, look attractive - and are cleanable, too. Some will even take scrubbing. Look for satin and eg-shel type finishes from your favorite paint brand.
Trim paint, as well, chosen with cleaning in mind, can make beautiful décor more practical. Most painters and homeowners tend to choose semi-gloss for the trim paint finish. However, high-gloss trim paint is not only easier to clean, it's also more durable, withstanding chips and wear better over time. Next time you're ready to choose trim or wall paint, select finishes and brands that can stand up to routine maintenance and cleaning.
Bookshelves
Decorating bookshelves sparingly will save you time and energy. Although bookshelves are beautiful areas to display objects and books, they are also giant dust magnets. If possible, reduce the number of items on bookshelves to only a few per shelf. This makes dusting easier and less time consuming than shelves lined with lots of small knickknacks. Better still, have glass doors installed over the shelves so that items inside don't become dusty as quickly.
Use display cases for collectibles. If you have fine or intricate collectibles, purchase glass display cases to group the items together (which always looks good) and keep them clean at the same time.
Plumbing
Choose simple plumbing fixtures. When replacing or selecting plumbing fixtures, make a selection based on how easy to clean the fixtures are. You will want to choose fixtures that you can clean behind and that don't have so many small crevices that make cleaning more difficult.
Window Shading
Select window coverings with dust in mind. Blinds are natural dust catchers. So make sure that the blinds you choose can be easily wiped clean, sprayed with water or vacuumed. While vertical blinds may be easier to clean, choose carefully or they can make your home look dated.
Another clean window option is the old-fashioned roll-up shade. Closed at night and opened in the morning, this style of blind doesn't have a chance to hang around and catch dust night and day like mini-blinds do. If you need to block light from a room, consider lining curtains with a blackout liner and eliminate the blinds altogether.
Carpet and Upholstery
Purchase fabric protection for furniture and carpeting to extend the life and looks of your furniture. When buying furnishings, there is a balance to strike between what feels good, looks attractive and will wear well or withstand kids, pets and spills. Whenever possible, purchase the fabric protection offered by some furniture stores and manufacturers. These coatings help repel stains and make fabrics on your furniture look better and wear longer. The same is true with carpeting. Always select carpeting with the best spill protection possible.
Bedding
Choose washable bed coverings to cut down on allergens. Queen- or king-sized comforters can be beautiful and luxurious, but often difficult to fit into the washing machine. Instead of standard comforters, choose matelasse, bedspreads or duvets with fabrics that can be thrown into the washer and properly cleaned - something you'll appreciate if you have a large or nasty spill. Washing bed linens also helps reduce allergens.
Obviously, there are some décor ideas that will require more upkeep. But with a little thought you can decorate with cleaning in mind. This will not only reduce the cleaning you have to do but will keep your home cleaner longer and increase the enjoyment you get from it.

Lighthousekeeping
Jeanette Winterson is unquestionably the key cultivator of impassioned, lyrical literature. In Lighthousekeeping, she strengthens her grasp on the intangible, making time and space nothing in comparison to the beauty and verity within human bonds.
In the in the misty obscurity between past and present, Winterson introduces us to Silver, a young girl who loses her mother and is thrust into the auspices of lighthouse keeper Mr. Pew. "As old as a unicorn," the citizens of the village of Salts generally stay away from Pew; Silver think that they fear him because he isn't like them. The darkness of the lighthouse is the only home Pew has ever known, so it's difficult to say whether or not his blindness is because of it. Silver soon becomes used to the darkness, describing the darkness as one that "had to be brushed away or parted before we could sit down. Darkness squatted on the chairs and hung like a curtain across the stairway."
How suitable then, that Pew's bedtime stories are of the lighthouse builder's son: the lost love and ensuing travels of Babel Dark. These stories also signify the passage of time - both in Silver's world and in Dark's - until finally the worlds come together like a ship colliding with the rocky shore in the blackness of night.
As the novel concludes, a grown up Silver reflects on her own relationships, attesting that "life is so short. This stretch of sea and sand, this walk on the shore, before the tide covers everything we have done." She promises never to let the words of love be unspoken again, and we come full circle as Silver recants the stories to her lover, as well as the story of how they themselves met: "these were my stories - flashes across time."
As with her numerous other works, Winterson permeates your very soul, ingrains herself in your heart - a stowaway on your voyage across the ocean within; the ocean with no lighthouse to guide you.

Types of Senior Home Care Services
The desire to lead a full, independent, and dignified life is no less important when a person transitions into the older adult stage. With this in mind, the senior home care services industry has expanded in order to offer services that will enrich a person's life with personalized in-home care. These services may fall into several categories: personal care, companion, and home maker services. Selecting an in-home care provider requires investigating the credentials of the agency. Make sure that each service provider is screened, trained and insured to provide responsible care that your loved one needs. You may find that many of these providers work in this industry as a result of having a loved one in need of this type of service.
Personal Care Services
The scope of personal senior home care services rely on the need of the individual. The services may include bathing, which is an essential aspect to how well a person may feel. Staying active is vital to the mental and physical well-being of an older adult. Your loved one may require daily activities which consider his or her physical limitations. In-home service providers can also work with family members and health care professionals to provide meal planning and preparation for those who have special diets.
Companion Services
To be able to have someone to talk to can go a long way towards enhancing the quality of life for many older adults. Senior home care services which focus on providing companionship for a certain number of hours each day, or several days in the week may be all that a person requires. These may include running errands, grocery shopping, conversation, respite for family members, and medication reminders. Your loved one will enjoy having freedom, control and the satisfaction of being in familiar surroundings that does not exist in a nursing home.
Homemaker Services
Homemaker services are very similar to those provided through personal care and companion services. Receiving senior home care services with this option delays the need for a person receiving care in a nursing home facility, and allows people who have been in the hospital to return to their homes. These services can be limited, depending on personal income and other resources. Basic household assistance may include light housekeeping and light meal preparation (unlike the specialized meal plan and cooking with personal care).
The one drawback to a person receiving in-home care is the financial hurdles that still exist. Most insurance plans do not cover the costs of home based services if no medical condition has been diagnosed.

Designing Your Home For Easy Housekeeping
While many only consider function and aesthetics in the interior design of their homes, designing for quick and simple housekeeping can shave off hours of cleaning time each month.
Reduce Clutter
Clutter is the avid cleaner's biggest enemy, and a time sucker when housekeeping. Every item must be picked up and polished or dusted; a simple way to cut down on time dusting is to remove some items from the home. If you simply can't let go of your prized articles, consider this: instead of keeping every well loved item in view year round, put some excess items on rotation. Only set out a few statement pieces at a time, and store the rest. This will give the objects left in the room more visual impact while reducing the amount of time spent cleaning that room. An added bonus: when you stumble across stored items while redecorating throughout the year, the objects will be new and exciting again.
Remove Carpet
Carpet is notorious for being difficult to keep visually clean as well as actually clean. Dirt, grime, and mold can get trapped in the pad, creating a nasty environment for the allergy prone. Also, carpet cleaning products can make cleaning problems worse by leaving a sticky residue that attracts more dirt. Hard floors such as tile or wood are simple to maintain and attractive. If hard floors feel too cold for your personal tastes, areas rugs are a good compromise.
Avoid Difficult to Clean Furniture
Certain fabrics and color choices will create a never ending need for continuous cleaning. Avoid light colored upholstered furniture in favor of printed fabrics. Stick with leather furniture, which can be easily wiped down, or other easy to clean fabrics. Many tout microfiber as a spill proof material, but microfiber can be adversely affected by large spills and can be tricky to clean, sometimes becoming hard after repeated washing. Avoid it if your furniture is used by children or others who tend to spill. Some furniture manufacturers design furniture with removable covers that can be machine washed. These are a good choice. Purchase tables and coffee tables that do not have super shiny surfaces, as surfaces with too much sheen constantly show any grime and fingerprints.
Use Glossy Paint
Glossy paint is sturdy, easy to clean, and stain resistant. If you don't like the way high gloss paint looks throughout the home, at least use it in high traffic areas, children's rooms, baseboards, and woodwork. Semi-gloss paint can also achieve a similar effect without quite as much surface smoothness or reflective qualities. Bathrooms and kitchens also benefit from the water resistant quality of high gloss paint. If you are repainting your home with high gloss paint, be sure to spend a little extra time properly preparing your walls, as high gloss does tend to show imperfections more than duller paints. Avoid flat paint when you can, as the rough texture can attract dirt and be quite difficult to clean.

Breastfeeding and Weight Loss Vs Bottle Feeding and Weight Loss
The debate has raged for years. Breastfeeding vs Bottle feeding. Which is better? - Well, I guess it's only raged for the last 50 or 60 years, since they invented baby formula. There are lots of arguments for both side, dealing with nutrition for baby, health for mom, bonding, and a ton of other things... but here's one thing that's not talked about as often as it should be: breastfeeding and weight loss.
No, not for the baby. Breastfed babies are generally larger than their bottle fed brethren. But that's not the point - this is weight loss for the mom! Every mom wonders if that extra baby weight from the pregnancy will ever go away (so they can fit into their old jeans again). So let's compare bottle feeding with breastfeeding and weight loss.
Let's start with bottle feeding and it's affect on the mother. This one is pretty simple... the mom holds up the bottle for the baby for the first few months, which does burn some calories, but not much. I guess you could count the frequent waking in the middle of the night and walking down the stairs to mix up the bottle as exercise - but that's probably affecting sleep more than anything. Then you have to take into account that in most family who bottle feed, there is at least a second person who does the job half of the time (the Dad), thus removing any calorie burning effects that might have been gained by the mother.
Now let's talk about breastfeeding and weight loss. It has been shown that breastfeeding can burn up to 600 calories per day! That's the equivalent of two hours of intense aerobic workouts a day. That's pretty awesome.
There are also reports that Mothers who breastfeed more frequently lose weight faster than mothers who nurse less often, and mothers who nurse for shorter periods of time tend to lose weight more slowly than mothers who nurse longer. So it's entirely possible that if you breastfeed you'll be able to eat more than you ever could before and still lose weight!
Why is that? Because breastfeeding and weight loss go hand in hand! Really though, it's because you are feeding two people and you're body has to work pretty hard to make the milk and make enough of it to support an entirely separate human being - that's growing like a freakin' weed.
So if you want to lose weight and keep it off after pregnancy - stick with breastfeeding.

Maid Service - A Gift For the Family
Housekeeping is a major source of stress and conflict for many couples, especially those with children. Today's hectic lifestyles with both parents working full-time jobs out of the home, transporting children to school and activities, preparing meals, helping with homework, and much more, demand juggling endless tasks and scheduling just to get through the necessities of the day. Add to that the important need to spend enjoyable and relaxing family time together, and there is little time and energy left to attend to housekeeping chores.
For busy families, a maid service is a very worthwhile investment. It doesn't just provide the benefits of clean, sparkling home and the enjoyment that offers, it relieves an enormous, stressful burden on the entire family. Imagine a life without nagging and arguments over who is going to scrub the tub or run the vacuum cleaner. Picture a fun Saturday at the zoo or beach with the family rather than a day of washing windows and scrubbing floors. Pretty sweet, isn't it?
Professional maids offer affordable, individualized services to meet the needs of any busy family, from daily, weekly, monthly, or even single-visit options. They can do just those time-consuming chores you don't want to do, like scrubbing and disinfecting bathrooms, polishing floors, and such, or they can do it all, including stripping the beds and laundering the sheets. Utilizing a maid service will give you consistent, dependable service with the assurance that your maid is trained, fully screened, bonded, and insured for your protection.
A clean home, less stress and fewer conflicts, more enjoyable quality time with the family... what are you waiting for?

Good Housekeeping is the Foundation For a Safer Workplace
Every supervisor, every manager and anybody in a leadership position should understand that poor housekeeping contributes to poor safety.
Go and have a look at your workplace and ask yourself these ten questions.
Are all travel ways clear of obstructions?
Are they properly marked?
Is there any rubbish on the floor?
Is the workplace free from flammable materials?
Is it clean and tidy?
Is there any accumulation of rubbish in corners?
Are all the tools in a safe usable condition?
Are they stored in their proper places?
Is the machinery and equipment clean?
Is the floor slippery from moisture or oil and grease?
Your answers will indicate the areas that require attention and enable you to start the establishment of housekeeping standards. The ultimate question to ask yourself when you have inspected the workplace is, "Are there any unnecessary things in the workplace and are all the necessary things in their proper places?"
Housekeeping in any organization is the cornerstone of efficiency and the maintenance of operating standards. If you are going to increase safety levels, first of all to improve housekeeping. A tidy workplace reduces the opportunity for accidents, incidence and prevents wasted energy. It also has the effect of making the greatest use of precious space. Keeping things in order is the first step of doing everything right, if you can't manage the housekeeping, you will find it very difficult to manage the business.
Good housekeeping will ensure safer production and greater productivity at lower costs. This alone makes the return on investment well worth it.
Without a doubt, a messy working environment contributes to unsafe work practices, undesirable incidents and ultimately, workplace accidents. From a leadership point of view, poor housekeeping is often a reflection of the levels of leadership within the organization.
Housekeeping inspections should be a regular part of leadership activity. During these inspections it is possible to recognize hazards and note them for action. It is also a great opportunity to identify unused inventory that can be returned to the store. If everything is discovered that represents a serious risk or potential danger then action should be taken immediately. Over a relatively short period of time, housekeeping will improve and so will safety. The investment in time is relatively short and it is an ideal job that can be delegated to a supervisor or manager.
The most effective way to conduct housekeeping inspections is to invite someone from a different department to inspect your workplace and then you can inspect theirs. This creates the opportunity for looking at the area with a fresh set of eyes.

To some, the concept of safety housekeeping is a new one. However, if your goal is to reduce worksite injuries, you need to embrace the idea of safety housekeeping. What is it? Quite simply, it includes keeping the work area clean and tidy, keeping floors, doorways and emergency exits debris free at all times, and finally it is an awareness of potential hazards that exist in our workspace.
There are several very distinct benefits of an orderly and house kept work area. These include: improved workplace efficiency, an assist to fire prevention on the worksite, a noted increase in employee morale, and finally, less employee injuries. It is this last point that appears to offer the most financial benefit. Obviously if you have an employee who injures himself on the job, you will have costs associated with medical treatment, lost wages, and lost productivity. Even if you have workers' compensation insurance coverage who will pay some of these costs, keep in mind that you will ultimately pay in the form of increased insurance premiums.
So what does a good safety housekeeping program consist of? First and foremost an investment in employee training should be a top priority. Employees need to be trained on the concepts of keeping their work areas safe of debris, cleaning up after their shift, placing warning signs when a spill occurs, job site inspections and more. Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of safety housekeeping is that your employees will have a hyper sensitive alertness to work place safety. Remember, an aware workforce is a safe workforce.
In order to implement a proper safety housekeeping initiative, there will likely need to be an initial expenditure for supplies. Some thought should be given to buying storage bins for loose or scattered work materials. Also, spill control supplies should be at several locations throughout the target facility. Finally, dust and dirt removal should be accomplished through a powerful and HEPA certified unit.

Tips to Better Dusting - Keep Your Home Dust Free
Dusting seems like a simple concept: take a cloth or feather duster and wipe it over surfaces that have collected dust. Viola! You have a dust-free house. Unfortunately it is not that easy. Sometimes when you dust, all you are really doing is moving the dust around. At times, the act of dusting is just getting the dust particles into the air where they can wreak havoc with your allergies.
If you have bad dust allergies or suffer from asthma, you should consider wearing a dust mask (found in the hardware section of most stores) to keep the dust particles out of your lungs. Even if you do not have these issues, if you need to dust a particularly dirty area, you should consider using one of these masks also.
Here are some other tips to help keep your house dust-free.
Dust from Top to Bottom
When you dust higher surfaces, some of the dust inevitably falls onto surfaces below. To save yourself from having to dust the same surface more than once (or to have an already dusted surface look dirty by the end of the process), be sure to dust higher areas first.
Dry Dust First
Always dry dust (with a cloth or duster) first. If the area needs to be wet dusted (using polish or other cleaner) only do that after you have removed the excess dust with a dry dusting.
Use Mats
Having floor mats both inside and outside of the entrances of the house will help reduce the amount of dust and dirt that gets tracked into your home on the bottoms of shoes.
Have the Right Tools for the Job
This can vary from room to room. Feather dusters may be great for getting into those hard to reach places on shelves, but might not get the job done for larger surfaces. That dusty ceiling fan may need a microfiber cloth on an extendable pole. You might want to invest in a electrostatic cloth, but dryer sheets are also a nice, cheaper alternative.
Brush Your Pets
By brushing your pets, you will reduce shedding hair and dander that can accumulate in your home.
